Late Victorian brass skimmer spoon, English in origin and dating to circa 1880–1900.

This wonderful piece features a pierced circular bowl and a finely shaped serpentine handle formed in flowing, sinuous loops, incorporating a subtle snake motif entwined through the stem — a decorative element commonly associated with protection and renewal in 19th-century design.

Originally intended for use in a hearth or country house kitchen, the skimmer would have been used for straining or lifting from pots and cauldrons. Today it stands as a highly decorative example of antique English brassware, retaining a rich, warm patina consistent with age and long use.

A striking object for display in a period interior, kitchen, or collection of antique domestic metalware.
