A beautiful antique hand painted Chinese lacquer jewellery / glove box, dating to approximately the late 19th to early 20th century. Decorated throughout in gilt with traditional figures, pavilions, flowers and scrolling borders against a rich black lacquer ground.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a fitted interior with a removable upper tray, making this a particularly lovely surviving example. There is age-related wear, rubbing and losses to the lacquer and gilt decoration, all consistent with its age and clearly visible in the photographs.
